David trained as an actor at The Rose Bruford College and then worked successfully as an actor in all the media (theatre, television, radio, film, voiceovers) specialising in musical theatre, roles including; The Narrator in “Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and John the Baptist/Judas in “Godspell”, Malvolio in “Twelfth Night” and Demetrius in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
At the age of 30 David studied Sociology and Psychology at Brunel University and graduated winning the Faculty Prize. He then pursued a career in research into health and social issues, and co-edited an early book in the field of Gender Dysphoria, and was a contributing author to a book on patient involvement in medical treatment. At this time, he sat on a number of health boards including a committee at NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence).
In his early 40s, David returned to performing, and wanting to improve his singing, took up singing lessons again. To his surprise, the voice turned out to be a genuine operatic bass voice, and he studied at the Italian Opera Academy with Federico Davia. Soon David started to be employed in opera. He continued doing research but opera took up more and more of his time, and sang opera professionally for over twenty years. In later years, he combined singing with setting up a successful business, VoiceworksUK, coaching professionals in academia, charities and the health service in communication skills and job interview preparation. Most recently, David was seen in “The Fake Sheik” on Amazon Prime Video, playing Sven-Gören Eriksson. He is a Governor of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and holds dual British/Austrian citizenship. He has been a member of Equity for over 50 years.
